This book contains various articles written by Sulaiman Mahbob in the local media, especially in the New Straits Times and The Star. The topics covered are wide ranging, reflecting the concerns of the country particularly in the fields of development planning and national economic management. Like other emerging nations,  Malaysia aims to reach a developed country status and in that endeavour, it has to equally address social issues such as poverty and inequality, and fiscal  management issues such as budget deficits.
Sulaiman has tried to explain the background of the economic policies and the thinking behind the processes of policy formulation in Malaysia. In many instances, one may discover that the concern for reducing inequality in the country and the reason for significant public sector presence in the economy are related to Malaysia’s belief in economic growth with distribution.
Sulaiman has served the Malaysian Civil Service for over 38 years, mainly in the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Prime Minister’s Department and the Ministry of Finance. He headed the Secretariat of the National Economic Action Council during the East Asian Financial Crisis in 1997/1998 during which time, Malaysia implemented capital control and the pegging of the Ringgit.  He is now the Chairman of Telekom Malaysia and the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) as well as a member of the Board of Bank Negara Malaysia. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Malaya (INPUMA), and at the Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (Unirazak).
