Dr S. Singaravelu's book, The Ramayana Tradition in Southeast Asia, is a valuable research work based on detailed comparative study involving four major literary versions of the Rama story in Sanskrit, Tamil, Malay and Thai (in addition to other versions in South and Southeast Asian languages). One of the most significant findings of the monumental work is that each of the Ramayana versions in India and Southeast Asia has its own characteristic features relating to its particular cultural environment. The Rama story has contributed much by keeping the cultures alive and intact in India and Southeast Asia.
