Basic Practical Peri- Anaesthesia

The concept of Peri-operative anaesthetic management and care (Pre-, Intra- and Post-operative) is today firmly established and accepted. This has changed the image of the Anaesthesiologist from that of the “Gas man”, the “Bag-squeezer” to that of a Physician-based Clinical Specialist with special expertise in Care of the Unconscious and the Critically ill. Today the Anaesthesiologist is medico-legally responsible with the surgeon for the Peri-operative care of patients presenting for operative procedures requiring anaesthesia.
