THERE IS much concern amongst Malaysians about the many problems that prevail in our society. Many of these are social problems, which require solutions with the help of the law and its effective enforcement, changes in attitudes and priorities, education and the dissemination of information, and the political will. Because the law is a useful tool to alleviate to some extent the problems facing society in Malaysia, a group of academicians have decided to write essays on socio-legal issues in Malaysia. The scope is generally socio-legal or legal n nature. Another main objective of this compilation is to afford a forum for short essays on topics, which appeal to the individual contributors. This compilation is not solely aimed for lawyers or academicians; the hope is that it will be useful for the general pubic as well.
